EDDY "THE CHIEF" CLEARWATER PERFORMS AN EVENING OF JUMP, JIVE, ROCKIN', BOOGIE BLUES RIGHT HERE IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD AT BILL'S BLUES, EVANSTONN

EVANSTON, IL - Skokie's own Eddy "The Chief" Clearwater will play at Bill's Blues on August 29 at 1029 Davis Street, in honor Bill's Blues sixth anniversary. Clearwater, an internationally celebrity of Bluesmanship, has broken racial barriers in America through music. In the 50s Clearwater was told not to mingle with the predominantly white crowd at a local club because of his race. But the crowd loved him and asked for him "the barrier was broken. When asked about this event Clearwater said, "We [America] have come a long way and we can still go further."

Clearwater is internationally known for his Rock-n-Roll Blues, flamboyant showmanship and power driven left handed Blues guitar. He has toured extensively in Europe and enjoys the European high appreciation for Jazz and Blues. He has won numerous awards including, Skokie's first Arts Legacy Award (2007) for his contribution and creation of Blues music and education of the American art form, the Blues Foundation Award (2009), the Martin International: Chicago Music Awards (2009) and the W.C. Handy Award (2001); just to name a few and most recently his newest release, West Side Strut on Chicago's Alligator Records was the #1 charting album on the prestigious, Living Blues Magazine in 2009.

Clearwater has known Bill Gillmore (Bill's Blues Bar) for some thirty years.

Eddy is a stakeholder in Bill's Blues and feels it is important to support a venue in his hometown. Eddy owned Reservation Blues in the city, but because of his international tour schedule was unable to work at his own club. So joining Bill Gilmore as a part of his club fulfills his passion for having a place to play on the North Shore when he comes home. The audience is great, a lot of old friends and musicians always come on by when I perform. That is what I love and also to bring in new audiences, families and young musicians. We have to continue to pass on the Blues to the next generation, said Clearwater.
